THE PRESENT HISTORY PROJECT(TPHP)
tPHP, or The Present History Project was originally conceived in early 2016 as a way for founder Jason Reeve to engage with Family History on a professional level. Working in Information Technology at the time, Jason's passion for Family History would often mean evenings and weekends were spent researching or learning more about history in general. The combination of a passion for technology and also family history forged 'The Present History Project', a vision to bring history back to present times through technology.
In mid-2016, Jason began a role working with the global leader in family history and tPHP was put on hold.
In 2018, evenings and weekends are once again consumed - but this time for the progression of tPHP and bringing history to more people through historical tours, educational classes and most excitingly, through cutting edge virtual reality technology to help you travel 'back in time' and view historical locations.
Technology has made family history more engaging and accessible than ever. We can easily learn about our ancestors from centuries ago simply by accessing a website online. We also connect to living relatives almost immediately, simply by 'spitting' in a tube - it really is an exciting time to dive in to family history.
But history itself is also on the cusp of another huge 'revolution'. Soon, looking at an environment, a city, a town or a ruins will be only half the story. Technology can now allow you to 'step back in time' and view a location as it was hundreds, or even thousands of years ago. Whilst the technology is in its early days, you will no doubt begin to see virtual reality and augmented reality applications more frequently, not just in tourism and history but also sports, movies, business and aged care.
tPHP seeks to utilise that technology to take you 'back in time' across significantly historic Australian locations that will likely intersect with your own Family History.
